BMIP Doula Trainers

Amber Twyne

Amber Twyne is a Certified Doula and Perinatal Educator. Driven by her personal experiences with abuse, obstetrical trauma, and infant loss, she’s committed to empowering underserved communities with a focus on Black families, teen parents, and survivors of domestic violence.

Her work includes the Just Breathe program which offers free doula services and childbirth education to pregnant teens, she leads a cohort of doulas with lived experience in domestic violence, and she’s recently joined the Doula Ad Hoc and Black Maternal Health committees under the DHMIC to advocate for equitable Medicaid reimbursement for home birth midwives in the state of Delaware.

LaVonda Collins

LaVonda "Lovi" Collins is a trained and certified Full Spectrum Doula and the founder of Doulaing With Love, established in 2021. Her journey into birth work was inspired by a commitment to addressing and reducing the maternal health disparities experienced by Black women in her community. Lovi received her doula training through Black Mothers In Power, a powerful organization based in Wilmington, Delaware.

A devoted mother to a vibrant toddler who has been her greatest teacher, Lovi's personal experience navigating pregnancy and childbirth during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic motivated her to become a doula. Faced with a limited number of Black doulas in Delaware, she decided to step into the role herself.

As a therapist by profession and a social worker by passion, Lovi naturally found her path in doula work, which aligns with her holistic approach to life. Her dedication to authenticity and care allows her to pour into others while offering unwavering support to the families she serves.

Jennifer Silvera

Jen is a mother of six, a birth doula, placenta specialist, former pediatric homecare nurse, student herbalist, and, most importantly, a student midwife pursuing certification as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). She began her journey as a doula in early 2016 and quickly immersed herself in the birth community, building strong connections and networks across South Jersey, where she was raised and started her family, as well as in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas.

In late 2017, Jen moved with her family to Northern Delaware and noticed significant differences in the local birth culture. Her passion for supporting Black mothers and families led her to become involved with Black Mothers In Power (BMIP), a grassroots organization dedicated to improving maternal health outcomes. Since 2020, Jen has served on BMIP's Executive Board, and she is currently the organization's President.
