My Name is Troy, written by Christian Lovehall—a Black Trans man from Philly known as an Advocate, Artist, and Doula (aka Brotha Doula)—shares the story of Troy, a young Black Trans boy who is deeply loved and affirmed by his family. This groundbreaking book offers representation rarely seen in today’s children’s literature, which often centers white, cisgender narratives.
Inspired by Lovehall’s own experiences growing up as a child, My Name is Troy reimagines the love and affirmation he longed for. The book serves as both a story and a powerful tool, encouraging families to build supportive and safe environments for Trans youth, fostering self-esteem, confidence, and belonging.
