Black Mothers In Power is a grassroots organization committed to addressing and rectifying the systemic inequities Black mothers and their children face in America today. Through policy advocacy, training, and community programming, we strive to challenge stigmatized beliefs, dismantle systemic barriers, and promote equitable outcomes in Black maternal health.
Our mission is to raise awareness of racial health disparities affecting Black women and children through grassroots organizing and programming. Our vision is an equitable society where Black birthing persons have agency and autonomy over their reproductive health and parenting decisions.
We are seeking experienced and compassionate Doulas to join our team as Mentors for the Doula Advance Program. This is a fantastic opportunity to give back to the Doula community by guiding and supporting new Doulas as they work towards certification and build their professional skills.
Position Overview
Mentors will provide ongoing 1:1 support to mentees through phone, text, and email communications, offering guidance and advice as they progress in their Doula training. In addition, Mentors will have the opportunity to shadow a family alongside their mentee, offering practical support and insight during prenatal, birth, and postpartum visits.
Key Responsibilities
Offer 1:1 mentorship via phone, text, and email to mentees, offering guidance, answering questions, and providing emotional and professional support.
Shadow one family alongside the mentee, which includes:
At least one prenatal visit
The birth experience
At least one postpartum visit
Ensure the family signs a consent form prior to shadowing.
Provide feedback and evaluation on mentee performance and progress during the shadowing process.
Maintain professionalism and a commitment to confidentiality in all mentor-mentee relationships.
Requirements
Must be an active and experienced Doula with at least 2 years of hands-on experience.
Certification or training in BMIP is not required.
Must be available for at least 3 months, with a maximum commitment of 6 months.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide emotional and practical support through phone, text, and email.
Ability to offer constructive feedback and be a positive role model to mentees.
Compensation
Mentors are compensated $100 per month for their services, including the time spent providing mentorship and shadowing with mentees.
