BLACK MOTHERS IN POWER: MATERNAL CARE CENTER CAPTIAL CAMPAIGN

Black Mothers In Power (BMIP) is a Black-led reproductive justice organization committed to ending disparities in maternal health. The proposed BMIP Maternal Care Center will be a culturally grounded, one-stop hub offering comprehensive maternal, reproductive, and family care to Black birthing people and their families in Wilmington, Delaware.

 

Center Services Will Include:

    • Well-woman visits & reproductive care

    • Prenatal and postpartum check-ins

    • Lactation support and breastfeeding café

    • Pelvic floor therapy, massage, and postpartum recovery

    • Night nurse support and sleep wellness pods

    • Perinatal mental health therapy

    • Trauma-informed counseling and peer support

    • On-site licensed social workers

    • Case management and care coordination

    • Warm handoffs for housing, food, childcare, and transportation

    • Connections to domestic violence advocacy and substance use support

    • Mobile units to reach rural and underserved families

    • Dental care and oral health screenings

    • Nutrition education and food access support

    • Parenting, childbirth, and wellness workshops

    • Workforce and educational referrals

    • Doula training (Sankofa Doula Program)

    • Community health worker training

    • Peer mentor and fatherhood engagement tracks

 

Projected Impact

(3-Year Goals):

- Serve 1,200+ families annually

- Train 100+ Doulas and birth workers

- Improve Black Maternal Mental Health and breastfeeding rates

- Connect 500+ families to housing, food, or safety resources

Capital Request: We are seeking $2 million to secure a permanent location, staff the facility with licensed and peer-based providers, and launch our mobile and training programs.

Why Now? Delaware continues to have one of the highest Black maternal mortality rates in the nation. The BMIP Maternal Care Center is a bold, Black-led solution to reverse this trend by providing high-quality, connected care in a space where Black families feel safe, seen, and supported.
