BLACK BREASTFEEDING WEEK
We Outside! Celebrating Connection & Our Communities
August 25th-31st
At Black Mothers in Power, we are committed to empowering and supporting Black mothers and parents in their breastfeeding and chestfeeding journeys. As part of our mission, we celebrate and recognize Black Breastfeeding Week to highlight the importance of Black breastfeeding and chestfeeding experiences.
This year's National theme, "We Outside! Celebrating Connection & Our Communities," highlights the significance of forming connections and celebrating our communities as we strive to promote and support Black breastfeeding.
The theme reminds us that building strong connections is vital in empowering Black mothers to navigate and overcome challenges related to breastfeeding. By working together as a larger community, we can create an environment that not only supports breastfeeding but celebrates the power and resilience of Black mothers. Join us in commemorating this week as we embrace the spirit of togetherness and the strength of our community.
Why is Black Breastfeeding Week Important?
1. Addressing Disparities: Black individuals face significant disparities in breastfeeding and chestfeeding rates compared to their white counterparts. While these rates have been increasing overall in recent years, Black infants are still less likely to be breastfed. Black Breast/Chestfeeding Week brings attention to this inequity, fostering conversations and initiatives to bridge the gap.
2. Celebrating Black Breast /Chestfeeding Experiences: Black Breast/Chestfeeding Week provides an opportunity for Black mothers, parents, and families to come together and celebrate their experiences. It is a time to honor the strength, resilience, and beauty of the Black breastfeeding and chestfeeding journey.
3. Promoting Supportive Communities: Through Black Breast/Chestfeeding Week, we strive to build a strong, supportive community that understands the unique challenges faced by Black individuals. By connecting Black breastfeeding and chestfeeding families, we create a space where they can share their stories, seek advice, and find encouragement.
How Can You Get Involved?

2. Volunteer: If you are passionate about promoting breastfeeding and chestfeeding in the Black community, consider volunteering during Black Breast/Chestfeeding Week. Your involvement can make a significant impact in raising awareness, providing support, and encouraging others to join the movement.
3. Share Your Story: Everyone's journey is unique, and sharing your personal experience can inspire, support, and empower others. Consider sharing your breastfeeding and chestfeeding story on social media or our website. By doing so, you contribute to fostering a culture of openness and encourage others to celebrate and share their experiences as well.
4. Spread the Word: Help us spread awareness about Black Breast/Chestfeeding Week by sharing relevant information, resources, and events with your friends, family, and community. By amplifying the message, we can reach more people, break down stigmas, and create a more inclusive and supportive environment.
